Doodles are a mix of two breed Poodle and Bernise Mountain Dog. This means they can inherit traits from both breeds, including size, coat type, and temperament.
Grooming is a MUST. Their coats require regular grooming to prevent matting and to keep them looking their best. I recommend taking your puppy to the groomer around 14-16 weeks of age for the first time to start getting them use to it and to get a schedule set up with your groomer.
Doodles are intelligent and highly trainable, making them a great family pet. They thrive on social interaction and need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation to keep them happy and healthy. Doodles are a very active breed.
Furnishings are a big thing in the doodle world. There are Furnished and Unfurnished doodles. Furnished refers to longer mustache and eyebrows and require more grooming . Unfurished refers to a smooth face so they would stronly represent the Bernise Mountain Dog in the face and will require LESS grooming. We raise both furnished and unfurnished.
Size is something every breeder classifies differently I have noticed. When I say mini bernedoodle I mean 20-35 lbs. This is the size I raise. I will use my mini poodle occasionally to get some color in my bernedoodles and in that case they may be smaller than normal. The height is not that of a large dog either. They are considerably smaller than a Bernise mountain dog.

F2B Bernedoodle (62.5% Poodle and also 37.5% Bernese Mountain Dog) is a cross between an F1 Bernedoodle (50% Poodle, 50% Bernese Mountain Dog) as well as an F1B Bernedoodle (75% Poodle, 25% Bernese Mountain Dog). Conversely, some dog breeders will choose to breed an F1B Bernedoodle and another F1B Bernedoodle which would lead to the F2B being 75% Poodle as well as 25% Bernese Mountain Dog. In either case, the F2B Bernedoodle is going to be either 62.5% Poodle or 75% Poodle.
This F2B Bernedoodle generation has substantial Poodle genetics which leads to a primarily curly or wavy coat. This suggests that the F2B Bernedoodle will certainly have less shedding as well as be a lot more hypoallergenic. Nevertheless, like the majority of hybrid dogs, there is always a chance for exceptions. For instance, in a litter of 6-7 puppies, you may see one F2B Bernedoodle with a flat coat that will shed.
The F2B Bernedoodle generation is often referred to as a Multi-generation Bernedoodle given that they are technically the 3rd generation. If your breeder says they are selling a multi-generation Bernedoodle, then you can always ask them what generation the dog is.

F2B Bernedoodle Qualities
- Coat type: Wavy or Curly.
- Hypoallergenic: More than likely. However, there are certainly exceptions.
- Non-shedding: More than likely. However, there are certainly exceptions.
- Hybrid vigor: Yes, however less so than the F1 generation.
As a cross-breed, there is a lot of variety in the Bernedoodle’s looks.
Most dogs grow very tall with 23-29 inches at the shoulder and weight between 70 and 90 lbs.
There might be some variation if the Poodle parent of your Bernedoodle was a smaller Poodle (a miniature or toy Poodle) – then you might have what’s known as a Mini-Bernedoodle, which stay fairly small around 20lbs.
Most Bernedoodles’ coat color is similar to the Bernese Mountain Dog’s one: they come in different shades of black with while and brown coloring.
Their coat is a mixture of the Poodle’s and Bernese Mountain Dog’s one: long and wavy and usually shedding much less then a double-coated dog.
It cannot be overstated that a Bernedoodle is not a couch potato dog.
Many Doodle owners find themselves with a puppy that is much more energetic than they hoped for. If you want a low-key, laid-back dog, it is better to decide on a purebred Bernese Mountain Dog.
As all Doodles, Bernedoodles are extremely outgoing and social dogs. They love to meet and greet everyone and become friends with every person and dog they meet. They often stay very puppy-like for several years before settling down.
Even though your Bernedoodle will probably not shed a lot (or maybe even not at all), he will still require grooming.
If Doodles are not groomed regularly, their coat mats and quickly become unmanageable. You should have a plan in place for grooming your future puppy. If you enjoy brushing your dog and bathing him, you can do it yourself. You can also find a local groomer who can help with the bathing and trims.
The longer you keep your Bernedoodle’s coat, the more often he will need to be brushed.
